Welcome home

In 2007 I purchased a home. I always thought I was doomed to move into a subdivision with perfectly baked and served cookie cutter houses. Unless I live 30 minuets from the city, that is all that's available right?  Well, August of that year I walked into was a dusty, old, one story brick house with plaster walls, ancient electrical wiring, and pink wall tiles in the bathroom. I was proud to be the second owner in this house's long history but did I know what I was getting into? NO. Was I up for the challenge? NO.

I know that I am supposed to say yes, bring it on (grrrr!), but that was not my reality at that time. I had a four month old baby that I was nursing several times a day and I needed to go back to school and finish my degree. I didn't know squat about owning a home let alone a 65 year old one. My husband (at the time) and I made the best out of it. We pulled up tread bare carpet to reveal genuine hardwood floors throughout the house. We cleaned and painted and cleaned again! The windows were old steel casements that held no heat, the bathroom was horrid, and we had to buy a washer and dryer set. We made it livable.

In 2009 we separated, and my daughter and I moved to a neighboring city leaving our home in the "care" of my soon to be ex-husband. Big Mistake! I feel like this part of my journey was absolutely necessary for me to appreciate this place like I do today. Towards the end of 2011 I got the call that my home was going into foreclosure. I often feel that this was to be his "gotcha" moment in our history together. One vital fact was left out of the equation: I am my mothers daughter. I will leave you alone if you leave me alone but I will not be destroyed. I didn't see it coming and this final wrongdoing was rough but I rolled up my sleeves and set about my work. I started the looooong and hard process of getting my home back. By April 2012 I was the official deed holder and I had removed the "renters" (aka squatters)  and moved back in. Here is were my love story begins.

Enjoy
